There’s no doubt that YouTube is a powerful tool for business owners.
As the world’s second-largest search engine, YouTube is an incredible place to find information, share information, build brand awareness, connect with customers and create informative content.
However, starting a successful YouTube channel as a business owner can be overwhelming and intimidating. It’s hard to know where to get started with content creation for your brand.
This quote right here is exactly why we decided to invite our friend and #SMWL22 speaker, Owen Video to come onto Magnet Marketers to share his expertise on how to grow a successful YouTube Channel.

Why YouTube Is Powerful:
YouTube is the second most popular website in the world after Google.
With over two billion monthly active users, a unique mix of entertainment, connection, and education, plus a wildly supportive community, it makes for an incredible place to create content.

The statistics are incredibly impressive:
- 1 billion hours of YouTube videos are watched daily (YouTube Press)
- YouTube has 2 billion active users every month and over 30 million daily users (YouTube Press)
- There are 38 million active channels on YouTube of which 15 million are content creators and 22,000 of them have crossed 1 million subscribers (Tubics)
- 47% of YouTube users said that watching online videos helped them cope with ongoing problems in their lives (Ipsos Mori+YouTube)
- YouTube is the second most preferred content for millennials to consume online video content after Netflix (HootSuite)
People love YouTube. They show up for information and end up staying around to binge-watch content.

This is why YouTube is an amazing place for brands to show up to share expertise and as a result, build relationships.
People love to watch video after video from a creator that they come to like, making YouTube a place where you can grow the know, like and trust factor easily!
Not to mention, people tend to trust what they see which means you’re able to establish authority if you show up with the right mix of content.
What Makes A Good Channel:
When it comes to creating a good YouTube channel, the keyword to focus on is value.
A good channel has multiple shows. Just like a great news channel has a morning show and a talk show, you want to have multiple “shows” that attract your core audience to your channel.
Not to mention, every single video that you create should be made with a specific person in mind, to answer a question or fill a need that they have.
Owen shared a great example: imagine you’re a local plumber and someone has a leaky faucet. Put yourself in the shoes of that person… they’re at home and in need of a fix. They take their phone out and go to Google/YouTube (hint: it makes no difference as Google will pull up YouTube in the search results,) to search for an answer.
This is your opportunity to show up to help by having videos on your channel that are titled with variations of how to stop a leaky kitchen faucet, how to stop a leaky faucet in 3 minutes, how to stop a leaky faucet with no tools, how to stop a leaky bathroom faucet, etc.
That is the power of YouTube; by showing up with videos on a specific topic, you become an authority in that space.
What Kind Of Content To Create:
To be successful on YouTube, you need to have a content strategy that sets you up to solve problems for people.
Gone are the days of gate-keeping your expertise; the way to grow business today is to show up authentically and share what you know a lot about.
Action item: Create videos that share how to do X and then make a variation of them. For instance how to make pizza from scratch, how to make pizza from scratch at home, how to make pizza from scratch with 5 ingredients, how to make pizza from scratch easily, etc…
This kind of content helps to generate search traffic and it’s even more helpful when you supplement it with your own human content where you share your own thoughts or insights on something happening.
With time, you get better and truly start creating more confidence on camera.
Action item: Aim to create one video each month where you’re talking to the camera and sharing your take on something.
When you know exactly who you’re creating your videos for, it’s easier to show up with vulnerability and specific solutions, because you care.
Pro tip: Don’t forget to include how people can work with you further. For instance, if you have a program, mention it!
You are sharing value and people will WANT to work with you, so don’t be shy about telling them exactly how to do that.
How To Show Up In Search:
The goal for your content is to show up as an authority and answer a question in a simple and easy-to-understand way, ideally in 3 minutes or less.
Here is a list of video ideas that you can use to get started:
- 12 Vocabulary terms: Come up with 12 vocabulary terms in your industry, specifically ones you’d like to become known for. Turn each of them into a 1-3 minute video that explains the term in a way that is helpful and useful for someone. Remember: different people will search for different terms, so think about variations that might be used for each of the 12 terms you come up with! This could turn into a series of 25 videos!
- 1 Keyword: 5 variations of titles: Focus on one keyword term and make a series of videos about it. This maximizes your chances of actually appearing in search. The best part of this idea is that you can literally repeat it with any keyword and make an entirely new series of short and informative videos!
- FAQs: Frequently asked - and should-be-asked - questions make for fantastic videos. You can easily create a series of these where you answer one question per video. Answer each question as quickly as possible - ideally in 5 minutes or less - and create a playlist to group all of the videos!
These ideas are incredible ways to create binge-watching sessions which is exactly what you’re aiming for given that 90% of all YouTube views come from people that are watching suggested and recommended videos.
This content is what leaves people feeling like you are the person they want to work with.
Putting It All Together:
YouTube offers brands and individuals a unique opportunity to connect with their customers on a deeper level.
It’s truly the perfect platform to share your story, show off your products and services, provide valuable information, and answer customer questions. By showing up to provide value in every video, you’ll create content that is truly binge-worthy and has people watching time after time.
Most importantly, by taking the time to create multiple variations of keyword-rich content, you’ll maximize your likelihood of showing up in search and getting found. Not to mention, this helps you gain a better understanding of your audience and what resonates with them which only makes you a smarter creator.
While it’s definitely not easy work, having a YouTube channel is extremely worthwhile to drive awareness of your brand, establish your expertise, and build relationships with others that eventually lead to business.
