How to Train Your AI Using a Human Approach

By NOW Marketing Group
AI and Relationship Marketing - Jessika Suter

AI is showing up everywhere these days, promising efficiency and speed. But here’s the truth: the way you train your AI matters just as much as the tool itself.

If you want AI to truly represent your brand, connect with your audience, and amplify your voice (instead of watering it down), you have to train it the same way you’d onboard a new team member with care, context, and a whole lot of humanity.

And just like we do with people, training AI starts from the inside out.

Begin With Your Brand Manifesto

A Brand Manifesto is your brand’s soul statement—it’s your declaration to the world of who you are, why you exist, and what you stand for.

It’s different from a mission statement or tagline. It’s your heartbeat.

When you’re training AI, your manifesto becomes the foundation. It gives the AI something deeper than prompts …it’ll  give it purpose.

Example: If your manifesto says you believe “relationships are more powerful than marketing,” your AI should reflect that in how it crafts responses, creates posts, and engages with your audience. That belief becomes the filter for every output.

Apply the CARE Framework to Training AI

Our C.A.R.E. approach (Capture Attention, Articulate Message, Relationship-First, Exceptional Experiences) is how we guide businesses to turn followers into fans, customers into advocates, and communities into collaborators.

You can use this same framework when training your AI:

  • Capture Attention: Provide examples of the kind of hooks, stories, and questions that stop your audience mid-scroll.

  • Articulate Your Message: Train AI with your core messaging, FAQs, and customer pain points so it knows how to explain your value clearly.

  • Relationship-First: Show AI your preferred ways of building trust examples of thoughtful customer responses, open-ended questions, or celebratory messages.

  • Exceptional Experiences: Upload samples of delight moments, personalized notes, or standout campaigns that created real impact.

This way, AI isn’t just creating content, it’s reflecting the relationship-first values your brand lives by.

Context Is Everything

AI isn’t a mind reader. If you feed it robotic instructions, you’ll get robotic outputs.

Instead, give it context:

  • Who is your audience?

  • What emotion do you want to spark?

  • Why does this content matter right now?

Think of prompts as conversations with your AI co-worker. The more context you share, the closer the output will align with your voice and intention.

It’s a Collaborator, Not a Replacement

AI is not here to replace humans. It’s your co-pilot, not the captain.

The most powerful results come when you let AI handle the heavy lifting—drafting, summarizing, repurposing—while you add the human heart, empathy, and intuition. That’s where authenticity shines through.

AI can help scale your message, but only you can scale the connection.

Train, Refine, Repeat

Training AI isn’t a one-and-done event. Just like developing a new hire, it’s an ongoing process of feedback and refinement.

As your brand evolves, keep feeding your AI fresh examples:

  • New blogs or social posts that reflect your voice

  • Testimonials that showcase your values

  • Updated brand isms (like “Relationships will always be more powerful than marketing”)

The more you reinforce these inputs, the more your AI becomes a true extension of your team.

AI With a Human Soul

Technology should amplify your humanity, not erase it.

When you train AI starting with your Brand Manifesto and align it with the CARE framework, you’re not just teaching a machine to write you’re teaching it to carry your values into the world.

Because at the end of the day, relationships will always be more powerful than marketing and AI, when trained the human way, can help you build even more of them.
