Before I began my marketing internship at NOW Marketing Group, I honestly had no idea what to expect and felt pretty inexperienced. But now my internship is coming to an end, and I’ve learned that caffeine is my new best friend, the office can be fun and meetings aren’t really that scary.
As I finished my junior year at Ohio Northern I started looking for internships in the area. I came across a few but for some reason NOW Marketing Group is the one that stood out to me. When I looked further into what they do, I knew that this is where I wanted to work. And on my first day, I truly felt that. Having a great work atmosphere with friendly Brand Managers makes a huge difference in the internship experience. Having this internship has prepared me for the workforce and it has provided me with an opportunity to build my experience and served as getting a step in the right direction for my future career. Not only did I acquire skills that will help me in the future, I was able to make connections and gain real-life experience that is not taught in the classroom.
We have all heard of the stereotypical intern experience: going on coffee runs, scanning papers and just given “busy work”. But I actually haven’t been asked to go get anyone coffee or scanned a single paper. My internship was actually not what I expected it to be at all. I was able to work together with our Brand Managers, write social post and blogs, manage social media platforms, as well as create images and videos. I was given different tasks where they let me just go and let my creative side take over. My opinion and ideas actually mattered!
Although my time here at NOW Marketing Group as an intern was only three short months, I learned what it meant to “do what you love and love what you do” and how it felt to look forward to coming in the office on Monday mornings. The individuals I worked with were able to create an environment that everyone in the office wanted to be a member of. This environment created a flourishing atmosphere that allowed for more positive outcomes for our work. Thank you, Jessika, and the rest of the NOW team for giving me the real-life experience that I will use for the rest of my career.
