Videos have made major strides over the years and are making major noise in marketing today. While at one point in time, videos were only used occasionally; it is now essential to use videos in a variety of different ways. There are now countless apps and websites to live stream to your audience, highlighted by Meerkat and Periscope, both launching within days of each other.

Meerkat and Periscope rely on Twitter as a platform to link to the user’s account and allows the user to broadcast and watch video from around the world. And when used creatively and effectively, they fall perfectly in line with the way video draws amazing buzz to your brand.

Video Will Draw and Keep Attention

Videos draw attention more than ever as our culture has less time and less attention to devote to wading through text. And if done correctly, videos keep the viewer’s attention. Thanks to social media, the average attention span is shorter than ever, just under 9 seconds, so you need to be able to capture customers’ attention, and do so quickly. Videos can also tell a story to invoke emotion of the audience.

Each video should tell a story to keep your audience engaged and interested in the content.

Video Can Be Used In A Variety of Ways

You can use videos to share tutorials; showcase products or services; provide information on product and share demos; provide client testimonials, expert Q&As, video infographics, and interviews; there is nothing that can’t be communicated through a video. You can place it on social media, blast it in emails, show it at special events, play it in a loop in a lobby or waiting room, or even broadcast a video for a TV commercial. Video marketing is able to reach your target audience in incredible ways that are impossible for print and audio ads.

Increased Click-Through Rate

According to Mobile Marketer, “consumers who view video ads on a mobile device are three times more likely to click through than when they are watching on desktop” and “in the last two quarters, click-through-rates on mobile were 11.18 percent, and CTRs on desktop increased to 4.25 percent”.

“Videos in universal search results have a 41% higher click-through rate than plain-text results” (Econsultancy).

Higher Chance of Getting a Page-One Listing on Google

“The chances of getting a page one listing on Google increase 53 times with video,” (Forrester Research). According to Marketing Week, video results have appeared in nearly 70% of the top 100 Google listings in 2012.

1 Minute of Video is Worth 1.8 Million Words

According to Dr. James McQuivey, 1 minute of video is worth 1.8 million words, which equals about 3,600 typical web pages (Forrester Research). Not only are videos more cost effective, but they also convey more content, and do so faster than traditional media outlets.

Of course, as with anything, in order to be effective in your video usage, you need to commit necessary time and energy to create content that is appropriate and effective to your target audience to receive the most successful results. Being authentic and captivating your audience will take your brand and business to a whole new level of marketing.

Telling your story through videos is a fantastic way to reach your ideal buyers, but it must be done effectively and build engagement. So where do you start?
