Facebook Newsfeed Update: Getting Rid of Spam

By Brian Williams

Have you heard about the newest Facebook Newsfeed Update? Facebook is getting rid of SPAM, ok maybe it's not "SPAM," but on Monday April 22, 2015, Facebook announced that it will be decreasing page content on the newsfeed that they consider “too promotional." So, if you’ve been using Facebook to just announce those splash sales and great deals you may need to rethink your marketing strategy.

Starting April 2015, Facebook will focus on bringing you more content from your friends and family than from businesses.

You may wonder what is being considered as “too promotional” for Facebook, here are the three content factors according to Facebook:

  • Posts that solely push people to buy a product or install an app.
  • Posts that push people to enter promotions and sweepstakes with no real context.
  • Posts that reuse the exact same content from ads.

Facebook’s ultimate goal is to increase user experience while on the site, so you stay active as long as possible. After all, don’t we all stay on Facebook to see the latest updates from our long lost friends from high school and our family members who we don’t see as often as we should? Facebook is only trying to create a better connection with those people while we are online; Don’t worry there is something you can do if you still want to get those updates from certain businesses you like.

This is why it’s so important to focus on being helpful and providing value added content when posting online. The goal is to build genuine relationships with your content when posting on Facebook. Click here for a few tips on creating content that works on Facebook.

If you want to stay informed with a specific business, there is a quick and painless step you can take in order to stay notified.

Just visit the specific business page and in the drop down menu on the “Like” box, you can click “Get Notifications.” Then, every time that business creates a new post you will receive a notification and you will never miss a beat!
