So another social media platform did it again. Twitter ruined the lives all designers everywhere! Well maybe not, maybe it’s just job security. What they did do is change there background design again. Now it’s not so much a “background” but a header. If I remember right they made a small change about a year ago and so did Facebook, Google+ ect. They all change every year or two. But this one is a complete overhall.
So what’s a graphic designer to do? Especially the designer that is in charge of social media designs for 50+ clients like we are here at NOW Marketing Group. No worries, I’ve done the heavy lifting for you. Just download my Free Twitter Template for Photoshop and you’re half way there. Now you just have to get busy updating your designs, that’s the “job security” part I mentioned.
Facebook is also updating their timeline design in 2014 but it’s not as drastic as the Twitter redesign. I mean Twitter didn’t just move things slightly in this redesign they completely threw it out the window and started over. Really though, design is just like technology. It evolves and adapts to new ideas and there’s been a strong push in the design field over the last year for a flatter and more simple layout. You can definitely see that with Twitter’s new layout.
So let’s talk about my free Twitter design template and how it works. The download is a .PSD for photoshop and when you open it you’ll notice that all the important parts are fully editable. The header and profile are Photoshop Smart Objects. Smart object are crazy cool, they're like little documents inside of your main document. If you don’t know how to use them read this tutorial. Check It out.
So after you open up the Layers palette you’ll want to find the two layers that are Smart Object’s. I’ve pointed them out for you in this screenshot. Just double click the little thumbnail icon and it opens the Smart object. Insert your design on these Smart Object layers and return to the main document. BAM, you're all set to send out to your clients to review.
