Holy Toledo!  So something big happen in social media over the last 48 hours. Social Media Examiner’s Facebook page with 300,000+ fans has disappeared completely.  The word on the web is Facebook has located it in the background of the site, but for some unknown reason the page become “unpublished” and the ability to publish it is being blocked.  This situation has sent some heads spinning in the social media universe like Maria Smith and SME’s own Michael Stelzner. To make matters worse they’re having issues getting help from Facebook support!! We want our friends at Social Media Examiner to have their Facebook page back asap! They share some of the best content on the web around social media!

Here is why you should care about this though.

  • Something like this can happen to anyone and any business
  • There is no clear 100% defined way to get your page back
  • If your page is deleted it’s gone forever
  • You’ll have to start over if your page can’t be brought back

This is a great time to remember some things

  • As a business you don’t own your fans your page.
  • No Facebook - No Facebook Page - No Fans
  • You should have an active website and or blog which is critical because you do own that
  • Have a game plan for the unexpected

As marketers, we spend countless hours building our pages on various social media sites, but we need make sure we are protecting ourselves.  As a social media manager you should know who your admins are of each profile, who has access those profiles or passwords, and what actions you are going to take if this were to happen to your business.

Social Media Examiner is one of the most respected websites in regards to teaching business about social media success, but it appears even they were caught off guard by this. If you have any tips for them, or this has happend to you, please comment below. We also wish the best for Social Media Examiner. This is certainly not something anything wants, and we hope everything gets restored.  If anyone has tips or can help contact Facebook...let them know we want our friends at Social Media Examiner to have their Facebook page back asap!  #BringSMEBackonFB
