Almost 70 percent of small businesses surveyed say they use social media at their companies.
Of those who don’t currently use it, 41 percent say they plan to start in the next 3 months. Those statistics come from a survey of over a thousand small business owners by Webs.com. They found that over 89 percent of small businesses use Facebook, and 68.6 percent use Facebook the most for their business. Just over two-thirds of small business owners have a Facebook presence.
Over three quarters of survey respondents plan to increase their use of social media this year, while less than one in five plan to maintain the same amount of effort they did in 2010. Over 25 percent said they update social media several times a day, while 16.7 percent said they post once a day.
When asked if they felt social media was a viable way to communicate with their customers, 62.1 percent responded “definitely” and 34.3 percent replied “sometimes." Just over 40 percent of the surveyed small business owners said that social media has either met or exceeded their expectations!
Social media is the #1 activity on the web and continues to grow rapidly. The reality is that people will purchase from sources they know and trust! Fact: the majority of people will buy from you if they follow you online. Ninety percent of consumers surveyed said they trust recommendations from people they know (Nielsen Global Online Consumer Survey).
