By Brian Williams
ABCs-1

A little spice never killed anybody, especially when using it to add some flavor to your social media. All of the following rules can be applied to any industry, because after all you want to get the most out of your ROI. Knowing the ABC’s of creating content may result in more fun and creativity online because you are working smarter, not harder than everyone else to engage your readers.

The ABC’s of creating content for boring industries on social media is all about:

Creativity

A- Authenticity. When creating your messaging you want to make sure you are offering your prospective client/follower/fan some form of value for their time. Facebook has done another algorithm change and is making it increasingly more difficult for businesses’ posts and messages to make it into followers newsfeeds. This is why being considerate, and authentic with your message will help you stay relevant with your audience. Make sure your messages aren’t “sales-y” in nature, let your service and your solutions be your sales pitch. Let your messages communicate who you are as a business. Stay true to your brand and your core values. When it comes to customer service and the decision making process, people love real people and anytime you can humanize your business you will solidify your relationships. Leading us into B.

B- Build Relationships with your followers. Being authentic with your messaging will help you show your value

and build online relationships. Take the time to listen to your followers and let them know you care by engaging with their posts, reply to their comments and reviews. Sharing your followers’ content will help to build engagement with your audience. By sharing their information you are opening the door for them to do the same.

As much as we would love to believe there will never, ever, be anything w
rong with your products or services, we all know that isn’t the case. There will be an instance where a complaint will be made and rather than trying to hide it or ignore the issue, the best way to address it is head on. Your followers will appreciate your transparency and your honesty and you can turn what might have originally been deemed as a negative, into an opportunity.

C- Creative Content is one of the most important aspects of social. There is so much “noise” online that your message really needs to stand out. Your readers do not want to be sold on social media, we all know how annoying that door-to-door salesman can be. Use social platforms to let audience inside your business’ four walls.

Use video to do a quick tip, product demo, introduce your team members or virtual tour of your business. Make your videos engaging and if you are sharing them socially, keep them brief. It’s handy to have a videographer on staff for our project, but you don’t need the best equipment or the latest in technology. An inexpensive digital camera or even a smartphone (depending up on your message) could be all you need.

Take your "Motivation Monday" posts and kick them up a notch by adding images and your company logos to create a marketing piece. Social media audiences like visuals. We love to use Canva.com for these type of posts as most of their tools are free and can make you look like you have a graphics designer on staff. Canva can take photos of your team or products, and turn them into marketable design elements. Be creative with how you are celebrating achievements, recognizing business partners or even highlighting a project. Using visual components WILL get your message recognized.
