Tumblr: No, not a way to dry your clothes

Looking back over my time with NOW Marketing thus far, I can say one thing for certain: I have yet to quote a client on the platform known as Tumblr (technically, written "tumblr" with no capital T). There are a variety of reasons for this, not the least of which is that my discussions are meant to uncover what platform would best meet the client's needs. So far, tumblr hasn't fit the bill -- yet. However, with the growth being seen on the platform, I'm sure that will eventually change.

So what is it exactly? tumblr falls under the category of a microblog -- and think of that literally how it sounds: a micro version of a blog. Or, perhaps think of it this way: I often use the analogy that Facebook and Twitter are both two kinds of restaurants. Facebook is the sit down version while Twitter is your fast food. Both showcase your brand, just in different ways.

Following that analogy, tumblr is to a blog as what Twitter is to Facebook. Same type of content, just a much smaller version if it. And keeping with the comparison, just as Twitter is the preferred network of Generation Y, over half of tumblr's user base is under the age of 25!

Personally, I've just started dabbling in using the platform for myself. I (try to) maintain a full blog on Wordpress, so like many other tumblr users I currently use it as just another way to share pictures (it links with Instagram, so when I upload a picture via that platform it automatically links to my tumblr account).

And this is why I believe social media is such a successful way to market. If your target demographic is 25 and under, this platform is a perfect way to reach that audience -- just how Pinterest is a great way to reach the female population. For my personal brand, I don't necessarily need tumblr; but on the other hand, I've ran across some excellent information via tumblr.

Ultimately, it boils down to what your needs are, and why partnering with NOW Marketing Group can help identify what your needs are and what platforms will best meet those goals. Feel free to give me a call and I would be happy to sit down and talk with you on the use of tumblr or any other social platform for your business. -- Jeremiah
