Twitter, Google strike deal to make posts searchable

Those Tweets you send out everyday are about to be seen by a much, MUCH, broader audience.

Twitter has struck a pretty interesting deal with Google to make Tweets more searchable online, according to a Bloomberg report.

According to the story, Tweets will soon be visible in search results because the deal gives Google direct access to Twitter’s data stream – which has about 284 million users.

Essentially, the information Google previously had to crawl through will be visible automatically.

This deal is part of a big push by Twitter executives to increase visibility of Twitter and introduce its usefulness to nonusers.

Though the Google-Twitter deal has not gone into effect – engineers are working out the details – it should be launched in the first half of this year. The companies previously had a similar deal but in 2011 it stopped because Twitter officials wanted total control over its content.

The benefits to both companies?

According to Bloomberg, Twitter will now be able to grab and convert more users to its platform while Google will have more access to real-time tweets and even a broader range of content than already available.

We’ll continue to give updates as the deal and the story progresses.
