What are Linkedin Groups

Social media is changing the way of business networking, lead generation, and business success. You can create a Facebook page to start your networking process. However, the strongest business network and lead generation tool is LinkedIn and its LinkedIn Groups.

Some other business owners may have already told you about LinkedIn. They may have told you how it has helped their business connect to millions of other professionals, increased their productivity and sales. They where telling you the truth: when you join LinkedIn, you'll have access to prospects, colleagues, and information that'll help your business beat your competition.

LinkedIn Groups give you the juice to beat the pants off your competition. These groups offers you the following:

  • A place to meet up with other professionals in like industries to share information;
  • Find solutions to questions that pop up during the day to day of business;
  • Recruit new hires;
  • Generate leads;
  • Contact potential suppliers and partners;
  • Increase sales revenue;
  • And establish yourself as an industry expert.

When you complete your LinkedIn profile, you'll notice a "groups you may like" section on your home page. These are groups that match your profile and are recommended to you for your success. You also can access groups using the groups directory.

Some of the types of groups on LinkedIn are as follows:

  • Networking
  • Professional
  • Corporate
  • Nonprofit
  • Trade Organizations

Joining a group is easy. However, be sure to read each group's profiles to find a group that fits your goals. The group's profile page will let you know whether members of your personal LinkedIn network are members of that group.

LinkedIn Groups are great places where you can collaborate with others in your own industry. You may solve someone's business problem. As a result, you'll become an industry leader and expert.

Also, you'll gain networking power. Working within these groups will open wide your field of contacts: it's your old rolodex on steroids. For instance, say you own an Import Car repair shop. You need a part for a car you're working on, but you can't find it locally or it'll cost your customer an arm and a leg to get it. You put out the word in one of your groups that you're looking for such and such part; and bingo, someone has the part for you at a reasonable price. Consequently, you gain a new supplier and you've delivered for your customer.

Joining a group on LinkedIn will give you a competitive advantage. Other businesses in your same industry and selling the same product may have a Facebook page or a Twitter account. However, joining a group on LinkedIn will distinguish you from your competitors.

Imagine Sally Sunshine choosing to buy her pearl necklace from you when she lives just down the street from two other jewelers. All because you stocked a higher quality pearl necklace at a reasonable price: a product you received from a supplier in a group you're a member of.
