PHHHOTO -- Yes, I spelled that right, and no I’m not yelling. Everything in the app is ALL CAPS because it is that EXCITING. If you haven’t heard of PHHHOTO yet you are not alone, but I don’t think it will be too long before everyone is talking about it. PHHHOTO is instant moving pictures or sometimes called gifs depending if you are an active Tumblr user. PHHHOTO has a sleek neon design which I think is very cool, and the app takes an innovative approach to social as images and video become a staple.
The app has five main tabs:
- FEED
- WOW
- CAMERA
- NEWS
- YOU
Just as other social media platforms PHHHOTO has its own FEED where you can like, comment or share the moving pictures from all of your friends, or just the users you follow. Just like Twitter and Instagram, PHHHOTO gives you the option of what you see in your newsfeed. Like Instagram and Twitter PHHHOTO allows you to follow someone, but they do not have to follow you back which helps weed out the garbage from your feed.
One of the apps coolest features is the “WOW” tab where you can see all the photos that have used the hashtag #wow. So, if you want your image to be featured all you have to do is #wow your moving image on PHHHOTO. The app also has a search option just like other social platforms to allow users to search for certain keywords or hashtags, which makes it easier to find what you are looking for.
With the CAMERA there are not many options yet when it comes to editing, which is one of the down sides of the app. To be exact, there are only two filter options for your animated photo which are black and white or the standard color. I hope as the app progresses and gains popularity the filter and editing options will increase, as I think it would benefit the app greatly. When you have finished shooting your moving image, PHHHOTO lets you upload your video straight to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.
The NEWS tab is pretty self explanatory as it is the place where you will receive your notifications if a user interacts with your image. You also have the option of searching users or inviting friends to download this app from this tab as well.
YOU is the last tab on the right and is PHHHOTO’S user profile page. PHHHOTO is the first app that allows the user to have a moving profile image, which I think is awesome. The page breaks down your posts, parties, friends, and what images you have liked. You can also see every image your friends have liked on PHHHOTO which is something cool for the social media stalker that is inside us all.
The simple integration that PHHHOTO allows you to have with your other social platforms should help spice up your content as you see fit. What I love about PHHHOTO is that it is not just another photo editor, but its own social platform.
