What to look for in a social media management tool

For many businesses, a social media manager is an important tool in their social media marketing. These tools help people become more efficient and successful in the growing world of social media. There are many platforms and tools to help businesses with their social media, but it can be tough to find the best one. Today, we’re looking at some of the things you should be looking for when incorporating a management platform into your social media strategy!

We sat down with Liz Azyan, a Social Media Pro Styler who helps business style and marketing their business, to talk about some of the important things to look for in a social media management tools.

Why use a third-party platform instead of the native apps?

Think of it as a business. If every department is working alone and separately, the team as a whole can’t reach a universal goal. Social media works the same way. If you are working separately on different social media platforms, you’re unable to reach your overall goal or even know if you are making progress. The first step is to recognize what your goals are. When you have a management tool that brings them all together you can use it to work towards one goal.

This helps you become more strategic and lets you focus on what works and what doesn’t (and a lot of things don’t work). Social media management tools can bring the data together so you know the numbers.  We may think we have to do it all, but the truth is we need to do what works and enables you to real those goals.

Are there any disadvantages to social media management tools?

There is a difference between seeing Sweden on television and being able to visit the country yourself. It’s a totally different experience to see and feel the snow. Similarly, social media can feel the same way. While you may have your tools to help you, but it’s different to experience Facebook for yourself. And, management tools are limited to what the native apps allow them to do. Sometimes third parties don’t have all the functionality of the native app. That can be a disadvantage.

If someone is interested in using a social media management tool, what should they look for?

One of the hardest things for people is curating quality content and preferred content. It’s easy to get lost looking through stuff to share, and just ending up sharing things willy-nilly. But just sharing things without strategy hurts more than it helps. Finding a tool that can help you find content based on goals and strategy you have in mind is extremely helpful.

You also want to be able to keep up with trends and what’s happening on social media and in the news, both locally and in your country and the world. It’s very helpful to keep up with the hashtags that are trending. You want to be able to listen to what other people are talking about. When you know what hashtags to use you can join a whole community of people who are talking about that subject.

Other helpful things to look for:

  • Photography integration

  • Ability to have multiple accounts and platforms

  • Right balance of access tools

  • Update social media

  • Engagement

  • Implement strategies

  • Reporting and data
